"Isis!" Viktor calls up the stairs. "We need to get the kids off before the Uber arrives?" Viktor skips through the maze of luggage by the front door. Who knew two weeks in Russia would require 18 pieces of luggage?

"Just...a...minute!" There's a clunk as Isis desperately tries to close the last suitcase with her foot. "If I weren't pregnant I'd throw myself across this thing!" She grinds her teeth in frustration.
"Julian, Hadassah, do we really need all these toys and video games and books and...? Really?"
"This is the longest I think we've been gone." Haddie points out."Julian, what do you think?"

Julian's eyes grow wide. "What will we do for that long? I need stuff to read and the accessories for my laptop. Of course I need my ipad, too, so I can network. And we don't know what the weather will be like. It might be cold if we go hiking, and we might want to go swimming. Then I need a towel and sunscreen..."
Viktor gapes. "No. No way can we take all these bags to the neighbors. Two each is enough, and maybe a garbage bag with pillow and blanket, if needed. And Isis... we can't afford to check all these bags."

"Isn't it always cold in Russia? I guess I can take a few of the sweaters out and our heavy coats. We'll keep each other warm." Isis winks at Viktor.
Hadassah giggles. "You guys are weird." She still thinks boys have cooties except for Julian and Yuri, and that's because they're related to her.
Isis stifles a bittersweet laugh, thinking that far too soon, Hadassah may not think it's so weird the way Isis looks at Viktor because she may be looking at a guy that way herself.
"Okay, we will all..." Isis glances at the twins to make sure they know that all includes both herself and them. "Go work on our packing and meet back here in 10 minutes to take you guys to the Mohrens'. Got it? "
Yuri taps his foot in impatience. "I don't get them. I'm happy with a soccer ball and a stuffed dinosaur."
Isis chuckles. "We'll be on our way soon enough."

Viktor taps his foot dramatically as his family returns to the foyer. He is happy with the improved luggage load but his feigns a stern look. "You actually brought clothes and essentials, right?" he asks the kids. "Not just books and toys?"

"Yeah. but...see?" Hadassah grins sheepishly and blushes.
"Hadassah Joy..." Isis glances at her daughter's suitcase. Clothes are indeed there, but some are barely contained. She shakes her head. "Just like her Uncle Greg. Put the clothes in the suitcase, not the pockets of the suitcase! Those are for your toothbrush and hair things, remember?"
Haddie sighs, but puts her suitcase to rights. Truthfully, she is a bit nervous and stalling for time. Not much- she just can't remember her parents ever going on vacation without all three of their kids.

Viktor laughs and sighs. "Good thing we are giving the Mohrens a key. No doubt they will forget something. We're going to have to bring the whole house back over here when we get back. Come on, let's go."

"No we won't. Well, I didn't." Yuri giggles.
"It will be weird if we do. A quiet house," adds Haddie.
Yuri is suddenly serious. "You've never left without us before." His eyes are huge.
Isis stops walking. "Is that it, guys? Why you're stalling? We're coming back. If we didn't know you would be safe we would never do this. Your friends will be more fun than a crowded airport with long lines."

Viktor is proud of his wife's confidence. He is grateful she protects the children from the anxiety she expresses to him. He knows she is nervous about leaving, too. He tousles Yuri's hair. "Just think of all the trouble you're going to cause!"

"Two weeks. We'll be back before you know it, and we'll call you. It might not be every day because it's overseas, but we should be able to email the Mohrens."

Yuri and Haddie both release breaths they had been holding. "Okay," says Haddie bravely. "But we'll still miss you." Yuri nods. Both of them come close for hugs from their parents. Isis glances at the clock- but hugging her kids is important as well. Two weeks is a long time apart from them when Isis can't remember the last time they had a vacation. "Send us pictures of Aunt Natasha and tell us what she's like, okay? Where in Russia does she live? Do you think someday we can meet her?" asks Haddie.
Isis smiles. "Aunt Natasha, already. I bet she'll love that."
