"You're fifteen. Of course you don't know. Some people don't figure it out until they're actually in college, and even then the average number of times to change one's major is six. I'd focus on your dance, and after high school, sign up for your general education classes. Those will take at least a year anyway."

"Okay... Yeah... That's good advice," Callie replies, pushing herself back to her full seated height, feeling the weight of the pressure fall off her shoulders.

"I have experience," Jesse says with a grin. "I did that too, and I've never regretted it."
(OOC: hmm, what could his degree be in?)

"Oh, yeah?" Callie asks. "What did you study? Was it something you were really interested in?"

"I... honestly don't know. It's kinda thebcurse of being an artsy person. It feels like everything I'm interested in will be equally as rocky," Callie sighs.

"Not quite true in this day and age. Freelancing can actually work pretty well if you take both online and offline opportunities."

"Really?" Callie asks. "Maybe I need to take some classes about how to maximize that kind of thing, you know?"

"Yeah. Or maybe do some ghostwriting, if you'd be into that. Your name wouldn't be on the novels, and it can be hard to mimic another person's writing or speaking style, but it does pay a lot."

"Yeah... Maybe. I definitely gotta figure out exactly what I wanna have as my backup plan though," Callie says. "Can't make any plans about college or what classes to take or what to even try to focus on."

"That's why I said it might be easier to do your gen eds first. Either that or take what's called a gap year. Test yourself. Try out different hobbies. Volunteer."

"Eliza would suggest I start volunteering now," Callie sighs. "She started volunteering when she was my age. It's part of how she got into such a good school and such a good program."

"Normally, I'd suggest that too," Jesse says. "But if you don't know what you like to do, it could only stress you. I'd start by going through lists of occupations and seeing what looks interesting."

"Why does this have to be so stressful?" Callie groans. "It would be so much easier if we could all just do what we love."

"Most people worry about money- how to support a family if they want one, for example. If they didn't worry about that life would be a lot easier, but that's unfortunately not the world we live in."

"That and... cut yourself some slack. From what Naamah's told us, it doesn't sound like you've had a lot of time to be...you know, settled." Jesse can only imagine what it's like being a kid in a foster home, wondering how long you'll get to stay. No wonder that Sheva, Chava, Naamah, and Menashe were so uneasy before the guardianship was finalized- and that, for them, had only been about 5 or 6 months of waiting.
"Enjoy relaxing- not having to wonder where you'll be 6 months or less from now. De-stress for however long it takes. And then figure out the future. It sounds like it would be good advice for Anise, too."

"Yeah... Probably... I just wanna be able to make sure that I can, like... Do what I wanna do as an adult, you know? I wanna make sure that I can chase my dreams and if I don't work on that now... I could lose it, you know?"

"I know what you mean. That stuff is so competitive now- finding a good school and all. I thought it was exhausting when I went to college, but I guess I got lucky!" he observes. "Still, not everyone goes to college right away. Some people take a gap year to- I don't know, backpack around Europe or something before their days are consumed by homework. That's an option."

"A gap year wouldn't exactly help me with my career goals, though," Callie says with a frown. "I wanna focus as much of my energy on dance and getting better and stronger so that I can be good enough to actually, you know... make it as a dancer."

"That's not what I meant. Of course you should practice your dance- but taking a gap year means that in between high school and starting college. Since you don't know what you want to fall back on if dance doesn't pan out, sometimes it helps give someone a netter idea of what they want to do."

Callie sighs, picking nervously at her cuticles. "Yeah. I guess. I dunno. How'm I supposed to figure out a fall back plan though if I'm off doing other stuff?"

"Well, for how many hours a day do you practice? Any time left over can be spent on trying out new things."

Callie shrugs. "I try to get in at least a couple a day. But that can be hard when I have to balance it with, like, schoolwork and stuff. It's so much easier to do that right now when I'm on summer break."

"Then they're stupid," Chava pipes up. "Adults aren't always right. And anyway, I don't think anyone can really advise you not to except your parents. What does your dad say?"

Callie shrugs. "He's honestly supportive of anything and everything." She glances at Naamah. "He's been a lifesaver. Almost literally."

"Texas." Callie grimaces. "Which honestly should tell you a lot about the kinda people I was around. I mean... I already told Naamah about some of the worst foster parents we had. There's a lotta really conservative people there and... Yeah."
