Hadley smiles and takes his hand again, "Ash, we all have our crazy families. I mean, my oldest sister - Ari... she's dating a guy that's family practically hated me at first... and now she might be having to raise his twins from another girl he got pregnant as a teen because the girl has severe cerebral palsy and the twins' adoptive mother died and so now they might be moving in with Ari's boyfriend. Soren and Zander are fairly normal other than the experimenting with cigarettes and stuff in college... but Everson and Everleigh? Their parents, my aunt and uncle, died a car crash last year... what most people don't know is that they were high when it happened. The twins are drug babies and still have health issues because of it. And then there's me who's well.... me." Hadley takes a deep breath, "I just want you to know you're not alone in having a crazy family life and I don't judge you at all."

"I know you won't. That's why I told you," he says. "I mean... You've met some of my family. You already know Caleb is kinda insane and so are some of the others. My mom isn't in town but she might be moving here soon too and her niece and nephew and sisters with her and there's a lot going on there too. People and family are crazy."

"I know I have some crazy stories. What's the craziest story about your family?"

|

"Besides me?" Hadley grins, "Um... I don't what I'd call the craziest but one of the funniest was when Zander and Soren were 10 and they switched places for the day. All of us kids were in on it and we totally fooled Mom and Dad it was great."

Asher stifles a laugh. "That's pretty funny," he comments. "Let's see... What's mine..." He pauses as he mulls over all his memories. "Oh! Here's one. When my dad first married my stepmom and us kids were still getting used to living in the same house, our parents went out for the night and us kids got a little crazy and ended up building a huge pillow fort that covered the entire living room. It was a huge bonding moment for us."

"That's awesome! That sounds like so much fun!" She giggles, "Gosh, I miss being a kid sometimes."

"We weren't even all that young," he chuckles. "It was like five years ago. I was already at college. The youngest was like eleven."

"I love that." She smiles, "I hope I don't ever grow up all the way. It's so much more fun to always have a little bit of child like fun in your life."

"Definitely," he says. "Pillow forts are great for watching movies. Maybe some day you'll havw to come to my place and we can do a whole big movie marathon in a pillow fort in my room."

"I would love that!" She grins and for a moment her mind flashes to other fun things they could do in pillow forts... as she pictures them making out her cheeks burn and she looks back at him, "What kind of movies do you like?" She asks trying to change the subject, hoping she didn't give herself away

Asher playfully bumps shoulders with Hadley, seeing the red return to her cheeks. "All sorts. I secretly love some of the classic rom coms. Marcus does too, so the two of us will sometimes have a roommates-slash-stepbrothers movie night where we just watch one after the next. We have a whole stash hidden in a box in the closet. What about you?"

"I love rom coms." She laughs, "And romantic dramas and family comedies. But I also love musicals and documentaries if it's a subject I'm interested in. I saw a French movie called Ponnette once that was really good. And I took a film class for fun last year and we watched a ton of stuff even a few of the old silent films." She smiles, "The only kinds of things I can't handle are horror films or anything too graphic. Oh and I like medical dramas too as long as it has nothing to do with babies or children being sick..." She takes a deep breath realizing she's rambling, "And I love Disney movies and other animated stuff too... Swan Princess is probably my favorite of the animated movies."

"Perfect. We also have a small collection of the Disney film, too," Asher divulges. "Nothing like a good Disney marathon every noe and again."

"What's your favorite one?" She asks as she scoots closer to him. She shivers though she's not sure if it's because she's cold or because she's excited. She leans her head against him again relishing in the sound of his heart beat.

"Lion King," he responds without a beat. "Are you cold, Hadley? We can go inside or go back to driving around if you are."

"No, I think I'm just chilled." She saws as she pulls her sweater tighter around her, "Lion King is definitely my favorite Disney movie too." She grins, "When I was little I dreamed about adopting four children from Africa and naming them Simba, Nala, Kovu, and Kiara."

"No." She laughs, "Just not sure how kids would react to having those names... or more importantly how society would react to them. I would hate for my kids to be teased. It's awful especially as a child." She thinks back to her own childhood, "People can be really hateful to kids." She breathes in and then after a moment she sighs, "Since we're being so open with eachother... I know it's way too early to even have this conversation but since we're spilling our guts to eachother there's something else you need to know about me." Hadley takes a deep breath, "I... I won't be able to have my own kids. Obviously even with gender confirmation surgery I won't have a uterus... and..." She sighs, "The hormone blockers cause infertility so any children I have will have to be adopted."

"That's legit though," Asher says. "My parents would be thrilled if I continued the adoption tradition they started." He pauses before hastily adding, "Not that I'm saying that because I'm like planning a future together or anything just that I'd probably adopt kids either way."
Another pause. "I made it more awkward, didn't I?"

She looked at him as a rush of adrenaline coursed through her. He was referring to his life as if they might be together someday, and not just someday, but forever. In a flash of images she saw their wedding, him with a dark skinned baby, her with her arms around him as they looked down at another baby sleeping in a bassinet...
She licked her lips and tried to think of how to respond.

Asher redirects his gaze to the sky once more, biting his tongue as he realizes that he did indeed make it more awkward. "I thought I was better at first dates then this," he says, only half teasing.

Hadley playfully jabs him in the ribs, "I think it's been an amazing first date so far."

"Right. Because spilling intimate family details and essentially implying a future together long past just another date is definitely how first dates are supposed to go," he says with a wince in his voice.

She frowns. Had she done something wrong? Had she misread him? Did he not even want a second date?
"I wouldn't know." She finally says, "This is my first one, remember?"

"I know... I just have hears my sisters talk about how they prefer things and they tend to like it a little slower. But I mean... I dunno maybe you want to take things a little faster."

"I don't have any preconceived ideas on how I want relationships to go," Hadley says as she shrugs again, "I guess I just always figured I would base how things went on the guy I was with. However fast or slow things went would be however fast or slow they went. I mean, I never pictured myself spilling my life story to you minutes after I met you but I did. I didn't picture us... well I mean I did picture us but I didn't think it would actually happen... kissing on our first date but we did... I don't know how things are going to go but I'm not going to base it on some rule or idea I've set for myself. I'm going to base it on you and me and wherever we decide to go or not go when the time comes."

"I promise I'm not trying to distance myself," Asher apologizes. "I just keep thinking of my own experiences and those my siblings have shared and I'm trying to find a good in between but it's really hard because like you said it depends on the people involved on the relationship more than rules."
