"That would be tough, graduating in a new school. I have a younger sister in the same boat," Emily sympathizes. "Do you think the change would have been easier if they hadn't been related to you at all? For instance, if they were adopted."

"Probably," Jesse admits. "In the experience of the people I've known who were adopted as kids or teens, most said they were grateful just to have...anyone. And while I wouldn't wish that level of loneliness on my worst enemy, at least in the case of adoptions, if the child is old enough, their wishes to stay with a certain family might be considered. This was just...thrown on everyone. You presumably have time to think about adoption. When something like the accident that killed our parents happens, though, it seems like you have to act first and ask questions later."

"I don't want to pry further than you're comfortable, but you've mentioned this accident several times," Emily says, circling in her notes each mention of said accident. "Would you mind sharing some of those details or would that be going too far?"

"Even some of them blur in our memories," he admits. "But the short version is that we were driving to Jersey City for a family vacation. Tarah and I, along with Boaz, had to take a different route because of road construction. A semi pulled out in front of them, and T-boned the car, causing the chemicals inside the truck to explode. My parents were killed instantly. They had to use the jaws of life for Batsheva, though. There was so much...stuff. Even now, we don't quite know what chemicals were in there. Batsheva and Kochava are tall with long legs. Batsheva's legs were so burned... second degree, at least. It's a miracle she's walking at all. By the time she could return to school, she'd missed four months of, roughly, due to making up snow days, a nine and a half month school year... it was too late for her to keep up. Kochava had more minor burns and some contusion... that's really deep bruising, though it can hurt like a break... and had to bow out of a gymnastics competition. Naamah and Menashe were a little further back, so they were all right, physically speaking."
Tarah takes Jesse's hand, amazed as always by how well he got through that. Having to share intimate details of your lives with total strangers can be daunting anyway, but things like this seem to be the worst.
"You always wonder why it's them and not you, and what anyone did to deserve it, I think. But when it's your family...." Tarah sighs. There really aren't any words to describe that.

Swallowing to keep herself from tearing up, Emily nods. "That sounds absolutely horrific. I am so sorry that happened. Tragedy loves to strike at the most unexpected times." She gives them what she hopes is an encouraging smile, thinking about the untimely loss of her stepmother. "Thank you for sharing that. I can see how hard that was. How is everyone recovering so far? Emotionally amd physically."

"Chava takes it hardest, emotionally speaking. She thinks we don't realize that, because she doesn't say much, but we do. It's hard to be there for your twin when there are times you don't see each other physically due to being a year apart school-wise. I can see why she thinks she just has to be brave- there's so much Sheva can't physically do well anymore. Sheva was never into sports, really, but that doesn't help Chava any because Chava wonders why it wasn't her. Being a gymnast means she'd have lost more, physically, really. When following your passion depends on being in tip-top physical shape- like both of ours... I can see. A passion can sometimes keep you going, but it's only part of your life. It just so happens I have three. Soccer, old cars, and my wife!" Impulsively, Jesse puts his hand on Tarah's six-month-pregnancy belly. "This is the rest of my life. But having an accident like Sheva's means you have to change how you do a lot of things in your life, even if one of them is not your passion."
"The others are doing as well as can be expected- they've had some counseling. I think that Chava just feels like she doesn't have time to go because she's...living life, if you know what I mean. She has a taste of it, but you've probably read about how many countries I've been to, right?" Jesse grins despite himself. "All that traveling for competitions can make it hard to do anything you might need to. Physically, except for Sheva, we've all recovered, but for her the crutches she uses to walk now will likely be permanent."

"That's gotta be tough," Emily says softly. "Both for her, having to go through all of that major change. But also for you, having to watch that shift happen. How do you think the move is going to affect her?"

"Hopefully everyone will find some friends who can...stand the pressure of being their friend even if it might mean a few extra press releases now and then. Or who don't exploit them or use them for money," says Jesse. "But Sheva... there's something about those with physical problems- I don't know what it is- that makes some other people think they're either not good friends or, in the case of someone who might want a romantic relationship, that they can't be any more than friends with them because of the extra know-how helping those with physical challenges sometimes takes. When you find a friend, it's always special, but someone's first romantic relationship can mean a lot too. If she finds both, she will be lucky, and if she finds both in the same person...that's being blessed. I don't think there would be a more appropriate word to go there."

"I didn't even think about that, how press releases could impact a young person's life," Emily muses. She herself had a fairly normal childhood. Her parents may have had a little more money than the average family, but she doesn't think it's affected her. "Do you find that these interviews and press releases and the like put strain on you or your family?"

"It depends on who's doing the interviewing," Tarah answers. "Some of the questions we get asked range from the silly to the extremely personal. And by personal, I mean who's-your-lady-doctor personal. You get the feeling that whoever knows things like that could stalk you." She shivers.

Emily winces. "Yeah, that doesn't seem right," she replies. "I promise you'll never get questions like that from me. In this interview or in future ones. Some people don't understand that famous people are just like them: they want privacy and time to themselves too. I'm sorry you've had to experience that. Has it impacted your siblings much, Jesse? How are they handling it?"

"Mostly OK, but luckily there haven't been any huge incidents since the beginning of January. Sheva had just returned from the hospital, and well, even under blankets, when someone is aiming a camera at your chest, it can be rather obvious. Naamah was the first to notice and tried to stand in his way, but she's so willowy it didn't actually help. We called the police, who got that cameraman out of the house so fast he's probably still seeing stars!"

"So, wait, someone was creeping on her? That's disgusting," Emily says with a scoff. "You made the right choice there. No one has an excuse for that kind of behavior. I can promise respect on all fronts from me if I ever do photography for you guys."

"Off the record, we'd actually been meaning to ask about some maternity shots. Yes, for the general public, too, but especially ones for just any family and friends we might want to share them with. Maybe the middle of next month?" Tarah suggests.
Jesse nods. "And thanks,Emily, I appreciate that. You can almost always tell the ones who don't mean it when they say that, and I can tell you do. But sadly, I think it was more than a- a famous person hazard, although we get our share of creeps. It also probably had to do with the fact that our parents died and the guy maybe thought she would be...receptive...since she was so vulnerable physically, mentally, and emotionally."
Tarah nods. "She told me that. Jesse and Boaz handled it well, but is it wrong of me to wish they hadn't?" She smirks. "Somebody forgot that the poor little orphan girl has two very protective, very irate older brothers, and Boaz is built like a bouncer at a bar might be."
Jesse laughs. "Tarah you're telling me this now? I was thinking of you, newly pregnant, not wanting you to be stressed.Just another of the times when I don't know whether to be a father or a brother," he comments. "They're getting pretty common."

"Mm, yeah, I get the feeling," Emily chuckles. "I have a couple older brothers and a few younger as well. I know they'd give the perpetrator hell if anything like that happened to any of us. We're pretty tight knit ourselves. Makes life both easier and harder at the same time, doesn't it?"

"Oh, that would be great, since you're offering," Emily replies. "Give me a quick insight into how regularly you guys actually live, am I right?" she adds with a friendly tease. "I think it would be great to be able to tell readers that surprise! you guys are just like everyone else."

Jesse nods. "A few special touches here and there, maybe, like the chandeliers in Sheva and Naamah's rooms. But... yeah. And no, we do not have a gold toilet for our supposedly golden...excrement. That's one of the sillier questions Tarah mentioned. "Here we are... There's Sheva's room."

"Have you heard of the Purple mattress?" says Tarah. "If not, you really should. Our bed is one of those remote control ones too, where you can adjust one side for you and one for a partner. Serta's pretty good as well. And for pillows, MyPillow.com. That guy knows what he's talking about."
(OOC: I've been thinking about getting a couple of those pillows.)

"A commercial. They have other things too, though, including sheets and mattress covers. We like the Giza Dreams sheets," says Jesse. Tarah hums the tune of the jingle, then says, "For the best night's sleep in the whole wide world visit mypillow dot com."
Jesse laughs. "And here I thought you said your pregnant brain wouldn't let you remember anything!"

Emily chuckles. Though she has never had children herself yet, she has watched her sister, her stepmother, her brother's wife go through it and she saw how uncomfortable they became by the time they gave birth. "Maybe just some pictures of the family? Nothing fancy is necessary. Just something to show off all of your beautiful faces."
